Hi, I hope someone at StarBurn can help. Each week I get numerous Windows 7 Event Log entries for Error stating:

\SystemRoot\SysWow64\Drivers\StarOpen.SYS has been blocked from loading due to incompatibility with this system. Please contact your software vendor for a compatible version of the driver.

Many Google searches on this topic state StarOpen is anything from a Trojan Horse virus to CD burner driver. Many state the sys file derives from StarBurner. I have all the latest updates for Windows 7 and other components.

I have 3 DVD players on my machine, so, it is not easy to identify the source. Windows on-line help reports no information for this error.

Please can you help. Rgds Jonathan

Hello,

StarOpen.sys driver used to open optical drive in an exclusive mode.
Maybe some application that use our SDK installed this driver.

You can try to disable start of this driver:
1)Open registry subkey [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\StarOpen]
2)Change "Start" value to 4
3)Restart PC

Thanks for the reply, the reg key you identify was set at 1, I have changed it to 4 as was suggested.

Hopefully this removes the continual errors entries. If so, I will make this post known to the many others who are struggling for a solution, and let you know.

The problem may be in the old assembly of the driver, or in incorrect driver installation.

P.S.
Please inform about results.

Hi, after applying the suggested remedy as your post, and having waited to see if the frequent logged error occurs again, I am pleased to say that the log entry has stopped and there are no problems in the function of the CD and DVD drives I have attached to this PC.

As noted before, and if you say it is ok, I will post this remedy in some of the many other forums that ask how to stop the error log, where solutions such as Trojan Horse etc are given as expert answers.

Thanks for you help. Rgds Jonathan
