Post subject:  did star burn burn my dvd burner/reader?

Hi, well, i probably killed whatever chance you had of helping, but...
i downloaded star burn from giveaway of the day and immediately tried it. created a virtual machine per your guide, but when i tried to burn the disc, the window for selecting the file only showed folders, and would not open the folder to select the iso file.. i tried to burn from the copy the virtual burner created in the "d" drive, and according to the log, it was successful, but neither my computer or tv top player recognized it. tried again, same result. SO, i went back to my old standby program,"A-plus DVD copy", also from gaod, which has been reliable, and midway thru the burn, it quit, and gave me an error message indicating a problem with "STAR BURN", even though i was not using it...
after that my dvd burner/reader stopped reading. it is recognized and device manager indicates its working, but discs try to read do not show up. WELL then, i allowed my emotions to run away and deleted the star burn program. my burner still wont function.
i realize a new burner runs under $50, but do you have any other suggestions?
Do you think this was just a coincidence??
thanks
jeff

No single software can damage any burner. So your device was just dying from age.
