Hello,

I have encountered a problem creating video DVDs using the StartBurnX ActiveX component.

Simply put, longer length DVDs where the titles are split into multiple 1GB VOB files do not play in the VLC media player. This does not appear to be a problem with my DVD structure (VIDEO_TS folders, etc), as if I simply open the main menu IFO in VLC everything plays fine. The problem occurs when I use VLC to ‘open’ the disc (such as auto-play), rather than the individual IFO menu. I have also tried burning the structure using another program and the disc plays correctly.

VLC Video Lan player:

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

I understand that this is an open-source project that isn’t licenced by the DVD consortium, but I have never encountered problems with any other DVDs and have played literally hundreds with this program.

• A short DVD plays fine on auto start in VLC.
• Long DVDs menu load, but when I click Play it simply goes to a blank screen and does not play the title (video).
• DVDs created work in Windows Media Player, but not VLC.

Has anyone else experienced this problem or have a solution? I am concerned that DVDs created will not be able to play on other software and devices.

Thanks!

Update:

I used DVDBuilder to create the DVD structure:

< Competitor URL removed >

I've also tried burning my VIDEO_TS folder structure using < Competitor name removed > (which burns as a Video-DVD), and it all burns correctly and is playable. I've turned off < Competitor name removed > IFO patching feature and it still works fine.

I've also tried enabling the StarBurnX PatchIFOBUP property in my program but it doesn't make a difference.

Any thoughts?

I'm not sure what exactly you do. You have some DVD-Video content pre-authored and burning it with StarBurn SDK? Did you run PHILIPS DVD-Video Verifier against your compilation to make sure it's DVD-Video spec compatible?

Also could we have StarBurn log for your disc creation process?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I've attached the log generated.

I have not tested with the Philips DVD verifier tool. It appears to require a licence which my company hasn't purchased.

Just a few reminders:

(1) Discs play in Windows Media Player and Cyberlink.
(2) Discs if autoplayed or opened using File>Open Disc do not play in VLC.
(3) If the main menu IFO is opened through File->Open File in VLC everything plays fine.
(4) Discs that do not have multiple split VOB files (i.e. short videos) play fine.

Thank you.

Yes, just to clarify, I have a pre-authored VIDEO_TS folder that burns correctly with other programs.

I cannot get what's wrong from the log. When I'll be back (~Monday) I'll try to re-produce the situation here. Can you localize the problem using smallest possible content so we could download it and give a try here?

P.S. Your code is broken. You don't enable buffer underrun protection. Issue has nothing to do with the problem we're talking here right now but you'd better fix this in any case.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I'll email you the files.

Can you please provide me with information on how to enable buffer under-run protection? I'm using the ActiveX component and I am basing my project on your DVD Video example, which doesn't mention buffer underrun anywhere. Moreover, the help file doesn't provide any topic on it, only how to check if the drive supports it.

Thanks.

1) I don't think it's a good idea. You'd better put them on ftp somewhere. We can provide with you access to our corporate one if you don't have own.

2) It's a pity. I'll ask Dima to check this out as in case of ActiveX it should be done automatically. What version of StarBurn SDK are you using?

Hi,

I'm using V12 Trident II.

I've already emailed you the IFOs and menu backgrounds (1 MB). In my email I explained that you should be able to copy the video objects from another DVD (need a longer DVD with a title spanning 4 objects) to simply recreate the project. If this won't work let me know and I'll provide you with a complete project.

Thanks,

Hello,

I call the SetBUP automatically ... but only if BUP is supported by device.

Regards,

Dmitry
