In other wizards (for example Grab Image) you see this device?

Did you really update for the version 9.5 we've just released?

Do you have one burner and have another wizard working at the background? With exclusive device access and device claimed (at work) other wizards will show NO devices available... So what's the case? :)

9.5 version is the only one I've put on.
only one wizard open at a time (didn't know that you could do more at once)
never has any other burning program been installed

Please try to do next steps:

1)
Run StarBurn and try to uncheck MainMenu->Settings->Simple Mode

If you see message about not istalled SPTD layer then please download SPTD
driver by link http://www.disc-tools.com/download/sptd.
Install SPTD driver and reboot your PC.

2)Run StarBurn and check properties of your drive.
Tab Supported CD/DVD Disc Types->Device can write these disc type:
Is CD-R checked?
Is CD-RW checked?

Thanks Andrey, I think we might be getting some where now.
No, the simple mode wasn't checked & makes no difference if checked either!
In device propertys , "Read" shows nearly all checked, but none on "write"!
Do you think by installing the SPTD driver will help any in the write department & will it interfere with win xp packet writing feature?
It's defiantly got CD-R/W write features

Have you ever burn CD-R/RW disc by this drive?
You can try to update firmwave of your drive.

Of course I've burn with it & firmware is the latest.
I thought you were going to say there was an issue with interface controller - being it is a serial connection & recognizes it as a USB device that the software hasn't got full dedicated control to write to

Is there any way for you to run some utility from us dumping device features? We can send you small EXE in such a case. It will help us to find out what's wrong with this drive & StarBurn core thing. So? :)

I'm sorry for your inconvenience, though it seems I have been duped.
I have returned this laptop for service from a faulty mainboard but they have put a dvd-rom only drive in it ! It was a combo drive before & I have only realized this now.
Thanks for your good support thou.
I'll try it out when I get my drive back!
