Hi,

I seem to have problems getting Starburn 4 to work on Windows 98 SE ... I have a Lite-On 48x Writer (Lite-on LTR-48246S OE) ... Nero software worked fine on the same hardware, but when using the demos from Starburn 4, they can't seem to find the device. Using my own app that uses Starburn 4 had the same result.

Does Starburn SDK have compatibility problems with Win98/95 ?

Regards,
Chris

Christian,

please check for wnaspi32.dll presence in folder with the samples. If it's present -- rename it to whatever you want. Looks like latest builds of our installer have a bug (not our but installer). It fails to detect Win98 and does not rename wnaspi32.dll automagically (Win98 has this DLL out-of-box). This does not affect functionality however. So please do what I've told and let's us know if you'll still have problems. And we'll workaround the installer bug in the next minor update.

Thank you!

Hi Anton,

After renaming wnaspi32.dll, it seems to be working now on Win98. However, testing on Win95 (Build 400.950), I get a popup message saying :

Error Starting Program:
The ....\STARBURN.DLL file expects a newer version of Windows. Please upgrade your Windows version.

Am I missing something here ? I tried this with and without Starburn's wnaspi32.dll file with the same results.

Regards,
Chris

Nice to hear Windows 98 works now. We'll notify the users about when we'll fix the installation (rename issue).

Windows 95 and before and Windows NT 4.0 pre SP6 are unsupported. We do not support operating systems MS does not support itself. Sorry for this!

Hi Anton,

Your product page for Starburn SDK (http://www.rocketdivision.com/burn_sdk.html) does mention that Windows 95 is supported. NT is also mentioned as being supported.

When you say MS does not support it, do you mean that there is no driver for it ?

Regards,
Chris

Christian,

Windows NT post SP6 (included) are supported still. Windows 95 was dropped with 4.x.x build of StarBurn SDK (some weeks ago). If you're hardly missing old OSes support and you're registered user we'll consider refunding you. It does not make sense for us to keep compete testing environment to support less then 1% of the users.

No. The binaries (libraries) used now are not supported on old OSes.

Hi Anton,

Just want to confirm. So if I were to install a third-party ASPI driver on Win95, Starburn still won't work ?

As for NT4, anyway to make it work for pre-SP6 ?

Thanks,
Chris

Christian,

no. SP6 is required to run for NT 4.0.

no. Full roll-back to different compiler (VC 6.0 at least) is required.
