Hello all,
I'm here because I got some weird error message that will not allow me to burn Double Layer DVD's.
I think my problem is either the software driving my DVD writer, or the DVDs themeselves (phillips DVD-R DL), because I'm having the same problem with both the Apollo DVD copy and the Active ISO Burner.

I have a HP model HP1035d internal IDE DVD burner (it specifies itself as a DL burner), but I didnt install the Nero software that came with it, because I already had the above mentioned softwares. I've been burning regular 4.7gb DVD's with no problems. Its the Double layer it just wont do.
The error message reads..."exception 8 status 31", and text "CStarBurn_ScsiTransportASPI;;ExecuteCDB(): Command failed".
Notice the words "Starburn" in the error message. The software currently driving my HP burner is "C:\\WINNT\System32\DRIVERS\cdrom.sys".
I've treid updating the software at windows update, but it says that it is a suitable driver. I also cant use the HP Driver Updater, because I have Windows 2000 that apparently is not the ".NET" framework..whatever that means.

...SO, whatever do I do?

Please issue us with the complete StarBurn log. It sounds like it's an StarBurn rather then your burner / media issue (unless you cannot burn with any DVD burning software).

The Apollo software wasnt set right, but now its simply not recognizing the media. This, along with the fact that my ISO burner also has issue with the DL discs, pretty much eliminates my writer software driver as suspect. It looks like the media I'm using is crap.

I just ordered some Verbatim 2.4X DL's. I checked on a website the rating of different medias, and Phillips (what I have) isnt even on any of the lists...

Scroll down to see the ratings...

...SERENITY NOW!!!

You got it--toyota!

That web site should prove informative to many here, if not an outright revelation. Ispent $49 on those discs, and now it looks like they're garbage. I'm going to see if I can at least use them as a regular capacity disc (single layer).
